Newcastle Airport Consultative Committee

Quarterly Meeting 3rd March 2009

There were 21 members of the committee and NIA staff present and 5 apologies.

1. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. There were no major matters arising.
2. Sgt John Bailes, Northumbria Police, gave a presentation and answered questions on the role and organisation of his team. The police operate a 24 hour system and support the security staff, information desk, immigration, business partners, airlines and Special Branch and Customs. They also deal with homeless people and would support family and friends in an emergency incident. Overall they create an important feeling of safety for all airport users.
3. The airport is required to produce a Noise Action Plan  in draft form by November and a sub-committee of 4 was set up to contribute to this process. A meeting of this sub-committee is planned before the next quarterly meeting.
4. The Chairman reported that she would be attending meetings of Which and the annual meeting of ACC’s and would raise appropriate matters at these meetings and report back in due course.
5. The NIAL report included details of an upgrade of the baggage belt system, the opening of an Accessorize outlet airside, improvements to the web-site, and that there will be an official Royal opening of the Aviation Academy. It was reported that the last quarter had seen the lowest level of noise complaints to date. Wind Farm planning applications continue to made in areas that could impact on the airport operations and are opposed where this is the case.
6. In AOB members requested representation on the committee from Northumberland County Council following the re-organisation of local government. The chairman also suggested that the September AGM should be held on 8th September to avoid any clash with the August Bank Holiday.
7. The next meeting is scheduled for 2nd June 2009.
